As a part of our mission to power urban transformation in India with our open source platform DIGIT, we organised a Co-creation workshop at eGovernments Foundation on August 10, 2018. We were joined by representatives from companies coming from 5 cities: Gaia Smart Cities, LAKEER, Samagra Empowerment Foundation, EasyGov, Onion Dev Technologies and Civic Fulcrum. We were also lucky to have the presence of Srikanth Prabhu, Portfolio and Innovation-Manager at Social Alpha, which promotes promote socially relevant innovations and entrepreneurship with a mission to create impact and support from Village Capital and Tata Trusts to make our event a success.
The Session
We introduced our journey in the civic tech space and how our vision has evolved with platform thinking and how our open source API based platform DIGIT can be leveraged by our partners to build applications. Our co-creation ecosystem offers partners:
- Market Access with speed and scale
- Reference apps to begin with
- Federated architecture
- Collaboration on Policy
DIGIT can serve as the OS of a city or the backbone for civic focused solutions and has been built for this with it having performance at scale, easy extensions, data security, cloud agnosticism and being mobile first. It also enables better matching of citizen demand with service delivery on the supply side by Government.
Talk by Pramod Varma
This insightful discussion was followed by session with Pramod Varma, CTO Ekstep and Chief Architect of Aadhaar, on Open Data and data empowerment for all the attendees and the eGov Foundation team. There were many insights from India Stack in empowering citizens with service delivery and how it has reduced friction and pain points at scale, and how even in the urban space, the focus should remain on empowerment through data.
Wrapping up
We ended the day with a follow on session which included an interaction with our co-founder Srikanth Nadhamuni describing how he and Nandan Nilekani pivoted our vision to platform thinking to create impact with scale and speed. Use cases for collaboration were discussed along with synergies in the urban governance space.
